Mal, You said: “Screensaved a favorite pose. A lot of work later and I was pleased with the final result”. As you should be! I love all the artwork I’ve bought from you. But, FWIW, this artwork grabs me hardest. You’ve somehow (after a lot of work) turned a computer screenshot image into a Claude Monet impressionist painting. But not with soft pastel colors but instead with vibrant, violent colors that mirror SRV’s aggressive playing style. Had to buy a second SRV t-shirt for my brother. His late wife’s favorite blues guitarist. I’ve heard that guitar is not important to today’s young music listeners. I’d refer them to SRV’s YouTube videos. Especially “Texas Flood” and “Lenny” from Live at the El Mocambo. Sure, “Crossfire” too. Guess time marches on. Bach might well have complained that harpsichord was no longer important to young music listeners. I’m on Bach’s side of the argument regarding harpsichord. And on ours regarding guitar.

What a great comment! It mirrors my whole philosophy on music. I think that some have forgotten that music should reflect an aspect of life. It can excite you, it can be nostalgic, it can be angry but it can also move you to tears. SRV, Jimi, Greeny...just a few notables out of so very many of my favourite guitarists were all masters at connecting their feelings through the guitar. No doubt if they had picked up a trumpet or plied their trade via a piano etc they would still have been supreme musicians. Yes, I do try to imbue my artworks with more than just an image of them. I am at my best when I love the musician's music. I can express myself best that way. I often play their music whilst creating the work. Stevie was without doubt a modern Mozart (actually I find Mahler the most affecting composer- his works can reduce me to a sobbing wreck!) As always I truly appreciate your orders. A big thanks.

....and pps that srv t shirt is bespoke. That is one srv pose that you won't see anywhere else by other artists (unless they freeze frame at the same point and from the same video! No chance of that!

Almost bought an earlier SRV image. You have many good ones. But this one really sings to me. Now that I have it in hand, I know I was right to wait. Also, strangely, I bought a t-shirt with your Old Chapel Window Sill photograph. Love the photo. But, upon receipt, my wife asked: “What were you thinking?. A lovely image, to be sure, but something that should be framed and hung on a wall. Not something that should be put on a t-shirt”. True that. I guess I’m now officially a geriatric, t-shirt obsessed Mal Bray fan-boy. At least she agrees with me that my new SRV t-shirt is the bomb. BTW, really enjoy wearing your Andy Latimer t-shirt artwork. It’s sparked a few conversations with people wondering who he is.
Mal Bray replied:
Ha ha! Well John I at least am very grateful that you bought both! The chapel window photo is from one of the oldest in Wales in a very secluded hillside location near Llanrwst in the Conwy Valley. It’s a wonderful place full of mystery, tales of Welsh prince’s and has a dark and very spiritual feel. Oddly the SRV artork was my response to a lack of copyright free imagery to base my work on. I watched a ton of YouTube clips of him live and froze framed then screensaved a favourite pose. A lot of work later and I was pleased with the final result. You are the first of three to buy it so far. After our last conversation re Andy Latimer I introduced my wife to Camels music by playing The Snow Goose album to her whilst on a long road trip to relatives in Stirling.we played it over and over She loves it. Oh what a beautiful melodic and lovely toned guitarist! I really appreciate you buying my artwork. I do seem to have a growing fan base of return buyers. But your comments are what makes yours so special. A big thanks. You can always email me here: malcbray@hotmail.com if you have any suggestions for subjects or just for a chat.
