I was lucky enough to see Rokia Traore sing live at Liverpool Philharmonic circa 2010. Her performance that night has stayed with me ever since and is the inspiration behind this work. Her songs are eclectic, fusing many styles whilst her Malian heritage is always evident too.
She remains one of my favorite contemporary singers.
